They (whoever “they” are) say that you need to work hard to make it anywhere in the world these days just like in the days of long ago because there’s no hope for anyone who doesn’t apply themselves to their work, their passion, their calling–but I can’t seem to find my calling, my passion, my work, aside from the daily grind of making a buck to pay the bills that are never ending, while I only hope to get ahead, just barely keeping afloat in the sea of bills and debt to which I have succumbed like every other American in this godforsaken land of plenty, where hopes and dreams are supposed to come true–the American Dream!–but seem to really only work for the rich and well-to-do, just like in the dawn of the nation’s birth, when only landed gentry were the ones whose life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness mattered at all.
