“A poem is supposed to rhyme!”
But really? All of the time?
What about the meter
That counts out each line
So the next one is sweeter
Each and every time?
What about slant rhyme
That doesn’t really rhyme
But kind of does each time
It is put at the end of a line?
Or what about assonance
Or any kind of general rhyme–
Not perfect–which doesn’t
With perfection rhyme?
Can you really say that every
Single work of verse or poetry
Is supposed to rhyme each line
With each verse constructed
To become a rhyming scheme
Because an old idea is
Reconstructed to tell the tale
Of every past instance
Constructed upon some pre-
Dilection for a certain kind of
Diction in verse or in prose
Such that nobody really knows
Which is right or wrong but all
Have a preferential kind of god
And how that one must write
To compose a verse that is right.
